How to Master what you Learn!

As a student of Winjitsu – the mental martial arts – it is important to absorb each lesson through a warm up filter that I call, “SWET,” which is actually an acronym:

S = Sharing W = Winjitsu = E Experience T = Training


This is the true way to master any new skill or idea. When you share information, you are really hammering home that training.  It is one of the fastest ways for you to become proficient in a skill and it is why we use it in our martial art system and at our College of Martial Science camps.

So, share what you have recently learned – you will want to partner or collaborate with someone else interested in learning the same material you have experienced and applied.  Teach them everything you know about the subject.

If possible, try to do it this way, but you may need to adapt or improvise:

  • Teach the lesson on day 1
  • Teach the lesson again within 24 hours
  • Teach the lesson again within 1 week
  • Teach the lesson again within 1 month
  • Teach the lesson again within 1 year

As you can see, and as we have already discussed, this is a journey, not a quick sprint or a weekend jaunt.  We are changing your life.  By Sharing, you are helping to change someone else’s.  There are no instant or quick fixes.  That said, however, you will be amazed at how fast your life will change once you begin applying the system of Winjitsu.

This long-term strategy will ensure that the information you have learned will stick with you (and your partner) for the rest of your lives.

NOTE:  It is important that when you are Sharing as outlined above, that you also be ready to adjust, review, and improve your lessons. Do not be so inflexible that you break.  You are looking for kinks, new data, and up-to-date information. Often strategies change and what worked a year ago can become obsolete with a new idea or invention.


This is the act of applying your new skill (and ultimately an entire set of skills) to your life. Winjitsu is your unique Mental Martial Art system. Once learned and used, it will become your ultimate weapon in conquering the challenges of your personal reality.

When you have learned a new skill and understand it clearly, you then need to apply that skill in order to get that information to really sink in and become a part of your psyche.

The goal here is to immediately go about finding ways to apply the new information, skill or strategy to situations in your life, and then review the results.


This is where you actually try to understand what the lesson or training is really all about.  In training (The Big T), we learn about a skill or thought, but in this step, we want to experience it.

In the steps above, you shared what you learned and began to apply the new strategy to your life. But perhaps you want to fully understand the lesson.  So, you will want to ask yourself if you know anyone in your life that has used or is using this new skill successfully.

You can also review your own life experiences and see if you can remember a time when used or applied this new information.

Once you have a clear understanding or you can personally relate to a specific experience (some students find it helpful to write this example down where it can be viewed every day), you can move on to step three, which is more Training.

The Big T:  Training

Why the Big T?  Because this is the big capital moment – you will be introduced to a new skill or concept. It is the initial step toward learning anything new.  Even a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

So why then is it the last step of our list? This is to help stress that training is never-ending and after you learn a new skill, you will continue to learn additional strategies to improve on this information.

For example, you might be taught that a positive attitude will help you to succeed.  This first step is bringing attention to this new idea.  You are simply now aware of a new idea and perhaps have practiced a few examples.

Training and practice are always where we begin, and from this effort, we will meet and become familiar with the other areas of learning and growth that will follow, thus building upon the skills that you learn.

Learning is a progression of steps, never just one.  And the same goes for training – it is and must be continuous.

Clarity, or a true understanding of this new thought, will only come after you go through these steps over and over again.

Keep an open mind and do your research.  Everything in life and Winjitsu is a process.

Winjitsu Warm Up

Step 1) Determine a skill that you have recently learned.

Step 2) Figure out someone who would benefit from knowing that skill.

Step 3) Offer to teach this person your skill, by explaining the benefits of the skill and how it will help you enforce your knowledge while being of help to them.

Note: It is important for both you and your “student” to commit to the lessons, as outlined above.
